Ancienne famille lombarde, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. L'origine de ce patronyme se trouve dans la commune homonyme de la Brianza. Des traces du patronyme existent déjà dans les chroniques milanaises du XIIe siècle, avec une Valentina d'Oggiono qui, lors du siège de Milan par les troupes de Barberousse, tenta d'échapper à la surveillance des assiégeants pour demander de l'aide à Brescia mais, trahie par sa sœur, elle a été tuée par les impériaux alors qu'elle n'avait que seize ans. Par la suite, le nom de famille apparaît avec une fréquence croissante mais sans cristallisation de la forme. Dans les Actes de la municipalité de Milan, nous trouvons des nouvelles de: Jacobus de Ogiono, Resonadus de Uglono, Ubertus de Uglono, Lanciavetula Ogionus. Et les de Uglono sont présents à Monza au moins depuis le XIVe siècle : en 1350 on trouve
