Die Familie Serci stammt aus dem Land Sardinien und genauer gesagt aus Nuraminis (CA), wo sie seit sehr fernen Zeiten einen hervorragenden Adel genießt. Diese berühmte Familie, die in zwei Zweige unterteilt ist, nämlich die der Serci Serra und die der Serci Vaquer, erhielt dank eines Giuseppe, eines tapferen Herrn aus Cagliari, der zu Beginn des 16. Jahrhunderts florierte und unter dem er diente, auch die erbliche Ritterschaft die Banner des Königs von Aragon, aber, in der Fraktion von Navarra ausgezeichnet, im Jahre 1512, wurde es von Ferdinand dem Katholiken mit dem ritterlichen Titel geschmückt. Viele waren außerdem die wertvollen Charaktere, die aus dieser Familie geboren wurden. Es genügt, daran zu erinnern, dass Paolo Giuseppe Maria, der am 22. Oktober 1871 von Papst Pius IX. Zum Bischof von Ogliastra ernannt wurde; am 25. September 1882 wurde er zum Erzbischof von Oristano und am 16. Januar 1893 zum Erzbischof von Cagliari
