Originalmente da Alemanha e veio para a Itália após esses imperadores, estabeleceu-se em Treviso, a cujo nobre Conselho se juntou em 1460. Certos progenitores dessa família foram Gualperto da Cavasio, capitão da região de Treviso, que em 1197 se mudou contra o bispo de Belluno, e deu-lhe uma batalha na planície de Cesena, o derrotou e o fez prisioneiro, mas ele perdeu seu vit. Sua viúva Lovica Capilupi mais tarde comprou os castelos de Onigo e Rovigo na região de Treviso, e seu filho Gualpertino e seus descendentes não foram mais mencionados por Cavasio, mas por Onigo. Giovanni, filho de Gualpertino, foi levado do castelo de Onigo por Eccelino da Romano, que o manteve na prisão por muitos anos; mas, liberto, recuperei-o e entreguei-o aos seus descendentes.
