Antichissima famiglia patrizia veneta, originaria di Altino, e di cui non si hanno più notizie dal 1544, nonostante molte famiglie che dimoravano in Venezia appartenessero alla nobiltà. Nel Libro d'Oro della nobiltà veneta e nel Patriziato Veneto, dopo la guerra di Candia e la Serrata del Maggior Consiglio del 1646, eventi questi che lasciarono fama immortale per il grande senno politico e le virtù cittadine, troviamo definita come illustre questa importante famiglia Onorai. Sulla scorta di antiche cronache esistenti nella Biblioteca Marciana, e nel R. Archivio di Stato finora inedite, e contrariamente a quanto pubblicò il Freschot nella sua Nobiltà Veneta, le opere summenzionate sono imparziali riguardo all'origine di talune famiglie, assunte al patriziato veneto. La medesima famiglia fu elevata alla nobiltà per ottimi servigi resi alla patria, e per le offerte fatte alla Repubblica.
