Die Familie stammt aus der Provence und hat laut verschiedenen Ahnenforschern gemeinsame Ursprünge mit dem Orange Sovereign House. Sie ließ sich in Nizza und Ventimiglia nieder und genoss lange Zeit den Adel. Es wurde 1698 mit Gio Angelo das römische Patriziat verliehen; Papst Clemens XVI. Mit Brief vom 29. September 1771 verlieh Giovanni Francesco und seinen Nachkommen den Titel Marquis für männliche Linien; Ein anderer Zweig der Familie wurde 1767 in der Person des 58-jährigen Angelo dem genuesischen Adel zugeschrieben.
