Questa famiglia come molte altre udinesi, derivò nei secoli scorsi il proprio cognome dal paese di origine, da Orgnano, villaggio situato a poca distanza da Udine, e precisamente a mezzogiorno di Campoformido. I documenti ci danno a capostipite di essa un Andrea o Driusso di Orgnano, padre di Giacomo di Orgnano, che nel 1482 era già morto, e avo di M. Cristoforo carpentiere, il quale già nel 1479 abitava in Udine, come da un documento rogato dal notaio Bernardino di Ser Lorenzo Lovaria. Nei memoriali del notaio A. Belloni vi è registro di un atto del notaio P. Benvenuto pievano di Nimis, che dice: " Pro Andrea q. Francisci et Zanino q. Jacobi de Orgnano, pro una eorum decima in Orgnano 10 intrantis iulij 1362". Questo registro fu riportato in una genealogia Orgnani del sec. scorso, ma trascritta inesattamente, e forse non a caso in questa forma: "Pro Andrea q.
