Da' castelli Arriols ed Orrios, corrottamente appo noi Orioles, nellaSpagna, dice Mugnos, prende nome questa nobilissima e storica famiglia originaria di re goti; perocchè si veggono taluni capi di essa figurare tra i principi di Catalogna e i conti di Barcellona, come da r. diploma dato a Capua il 20 giugno 1142. Lasciando intanto al Surita il resto delle glorie di tal famiglia in quelle contrade, ci si limita a dire, che un Beringario figlio di Bernardo celebre nelle guerre di Spagna la trapiantò in Sicilia accompagnando re Pietro d'Aragona, dal quale in compenso di militari servigi si ebbe il castello e la terra di Sampiero sopra Patti, la terra di Raccuja ed il governo e la castellania di Taormina. Si distinsero: altro Beringario barone d'Ucria, Cianciana, Piraino; Martini, Fabbrica, Solicito e Comitini; un terzo Beringario milite aurato 1393; un Manfredo camerlengo di re Alfonso 1427 e stratigoto di Messina;
