Antica ed illustre famiglia siciliana, la quale godette nobiltà in Caltagirone, in Salemi ed in Palermo. Un Matteo possedette il feudo lo Cathuso e Verbumcaudo, da lui perduto per essersi ribellato ai Martini; un dottor Giovanni, fu giurato in Caltagirone negli anni 1460, 1462 e 1472; un Antonino, fu capitano di giustizia in Salemi nel 1525-26; un Matteo, da Carini, dell'Ordine dei Carmelitani, nato a 10 febbraio 1610, che insegnò nei monasteri di Napoli e di Firenze e nel collegio di S.Maria Transpontina in Roma, fece parte della Congregazione Propaganda Fide, fu incaricato della versione in Arabo della Sacra Scrittura, fu procuratore generale dell'ordine Carmelitano, visitatore apostolico, vescovo di Cefalù, nella quale città morì a 13 novembre 1695, dopo aver pubblicato: "Cursum theologicum in Tertiam partem D. Thomae ad methodum scholasticum ordinatum. Tom. Romae, ex Typographia Vitalis Mascardi 1653 in Fol." e "Constitutiones Synodales pro Cathedrali Cephaludensi totaque Diocesi componenda,
