Famiglia, di antica e provata nobiltà, le cui origini rimontano al secolo XIV. Bartolo Orr, intervenne, tra ai rappresentanti del Comune, al trattato di pace tra Eleonora d'Arborea ed il re Giovanni d'Aragona, stipulato il 24 gennaio 1388. Matteo Orr, con diploma in data 7 giugno 1738 di Carlo Emanuele III, re di Sardegna, ottenne il titolo del cavalierato ereditario e l'uso delle armi gentilizie. A favore di Antonio Orr (1731-1803), il re Carlo Emanuele IV, spediva, in data 12 settembre 1799, diplomi di cavalierato e di nobiltà, trasmissibili, in considerazione dei servizio resi nella pronta esecuzione di vari incarichi affidatigli, non disgiunti da quelli prestati dai di lui figli Francesco, Giacomo e Raimondo, i quali parteciparono contro l'armata nemica (spedizione francese del 1793) che tentò di invadere la Sardegna, e concorsero insieme a molti altri volontari alla difesa della capitale dell'isola in qualità di capitano di fanteria miliziana.
