Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione le cui origini sono tutt'ora avvolte nelle tenebre e discusse e disputate tra la leggenda e le ipotesi storiche. Si vuole di origine pisana e si dice che sia passata in Sicilia nel secolo XIII e propagata in diverse regioni d'Italia dal secolo XVI. Un Andrea, da Castronovo, con atto 12 febbraio 1399, ebbe da Pietro Mazza il feudo e castello di Delia, egli stesso fu vice secreto di Naro, ebbe concessione dal re Martino del feudo Pigilio o Ralbato, acquistò da re Martino con privilegio del 7 febbraio 1405; un Giovanni Andrea, di Antonino, di Andrea predetto, ottenne conferma del feudo Delia a 1 giugno 1453 e del feudo Dammisa a 27 giugno 1453; Paolo Silvestro, fu investito dei feudo Delia a 12 settembre 1480 e lo trasmise al figlio Pompeo, che vendette Dammisa nel 1504 a Bernardo Lucchese, barone di Milici,
