El linaje de este noble apellido es de orígen gallego, descendiente del Conde Gutierre Osorio, en los tiempos de Mauregato, Rey de Asturias, que falleció en el año 788, una rama pasó a Portugal. El noble linaje de los Osorio de Moscoso enlazó con la primera nobleza de España. Caballeros de este apellido probaron su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlos III y San Juan de Jerusalén, en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid y en la Real Compañía de Guardias Marinas. Don Pedro Osorio de Moscoso y Moreno, IX Duque de Montemar, ingresó en la Real Maestranza de Ronda. Don Pedro Álvarez Osorio fue creado Conde de Trastamara por Don Juan II en 1445 y Don Antonio María Osorio, Marqués de Torremejía en 1799. Como segunda rama de este linaje esta la que inicia Conde Martín Osorio.
