La famiglia è originaria da Domodossola. Un Giacomo si trasferì in Roma ed acquistò dalla nobile famiglia Maccarani nel 1685 il castello di Pietraforte in Sabina, ottenendone, nel 1702, la erezione in marchesato dal Pontefice Clemente XI (Albani). Antonio, suo figlio, si sposò con la marchesa Della Torre; Girolama ultima di sua famiglia che portò agli Ossoli cognome e nobiltà romana confermata al figlio Giuseppe con senatoconsulto del 22 giungo 1790. La famiglia Della Torre dette nel 1421 un Conservatore di Roma in persona di Giovanni Paolo; nel 1704 Paolo coprì la medesima carica. Pancrazio fu senatore romano nell'anno 1355 e nel 1497 si ha un Magister Petrus de Turre librarius de regione Parionis.
