La valle dell'Ossona che, tra lo Scrivia ed il Grue, innalza i primi contrafforti dell'Appennino ligure, doveva essere amministrata nei secoli X e XI da feudatari che assunsero il nome dell'omonima valle o torrente; il Gabotto opina, pur non affermandolo categoricamnte, che gli O. come gli Avolasca ed i Carlasco, signori alle porte di Tortona, fossero consanguinei di Ingone di Tramintana figlio di Gaidaldo conte d'Acqui nel 991 e, per glu uffici di cui erano investiti, i più idonei a costiuire un primo geverno comunale autonomo sul finire dell'XI secolo alla quale risalgono le prime memorie reperite. Il Carnevale asserisce che nel 1115 era console di Tortona Guasco di O. il quale, con il collega Aleardo Nateri e ad imitazione dei milanesi, adottoò il carroccio per le milizie combattenti; si sposò nel 1118 con Adelasa figlia di Ido Oramala e Amelia Abelli, entrambi di antichi ed illustri casato tortonese; Guido
