Antichissima e nobilissima famiglia, aggregata fin dal 1081 al Consiglio nobile di Padova. Il primo individuo ricordato dalla storia è Ugone, il quale si trova fra i consoli di Padova nel 1113. Questa famiglia, potente per ricchezze ed aderenze, ebbe a provare tutto il peso dell'odio e della tirannia di Ezellino III, e fattasi difenditrice della patria ogni mezzo pose in opera per salvarla; ma dovette pagare coll'esilio, colle sostanze, colla vita il suo generoso ardimento. Ostesano degli Ostesani fu presente all'atto pel quale i Coneglianesi furono ammessi alla cittadinanza di Padova l'11 Apr. 1233; poi nel 1235 si trova tra i 16 provveditori nominati dal podestà per difendere la libertà di Padova minacciata da Ezelino, e nel 1256 ebbe lo stesso ufficio per decidere se si dovesse o nò conseganre la città all'imperatore, ma la mano del tiranno lo colpì, fu cacciato in bando, e di lui più nulla
