La famiglia ebbe tra i propri membri il pontefice Alessandro VIII, al secolo Pietro. Era nato a Venezia il 22 aprile 1611 dal cancelliere Grande Marco e da Vittoria Tornielli. Fu elevato alla porpora il 19 febbraio 1652 e fu investito della carica vescovile suburbicaria di Porto. Il 6 ottobre 1689 fu eletto Pontefice. Come già aveva fatto il suo predecessore nel Soglio del Maggior Pietro, Innocenzo XI (Odescalchi), negò la investitura ai vescovi di Francia in conseguenza della condanna delle quattro porzioni della Chiesa gallicana. Fornì cospicui aiuti al re Leopoldo I ed ai veneziani nella guerra contro i Turchi. Nel 1690 creò ed istituì suo nipote Marco, duca di Fiano, che ebbe due figlie; Marco defunto nel 1909 discendeva da Alessandro, di Marco, di Pier Gregorio. Ebbe una figlia che andò sposa al conte Carlo Rasponi. Estinguendosi la famiglia, Cesare, figlio di Carlo Rasponi e della ricordata Luisa
