Apellido de origen gallego. Procede de Portugal, de donde pasó también a Andalucía y Murica, por los años 1350. Otros de este apellido se establecieron en Canarias, después de la Conquista. Don José Francisco P. y Vega, era natural de Setenil, en Cádiz y contrajo matrimonio en la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia, en el Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) el 14 de marzo de 1795, de cuyo enlace nació: Doña María de los Dolores P., el año 1813 y contrajo nupcias con Don Nicolás de Aguilar y Rusell Romero Ximénez de Embun y Palencia, Teniente Coronel de Milicias y último poseedor del Mayorazgo que fundara Don Marcos Verde de Aguilar. De este matrimonio nacieron ocho hijos. Entre los primeros pobladores de la isla de Tenerife, se encuantra un labrador llamado Juan P., "que tiene una huerta con árboles en La Laguna que pone en arriendo y vende seis fanegas de tierra", según consta en los Protocolos del escribano Hernán Guerra, de La Laguna. Años 1508-1510. Caballeros de este apellido probaron su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Carlos III y San Juan de Jerusalén y en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid y Real Compañía de Guardias Marinas.
