Le prime memorie storiche che si hanno in Amalfi, di questa famiglia, risalgono al regno di re Ladislao di Durazzo, di cui fu coppiere un Cola Pacca, morto in Capua in seguito al veleno propinato al re. Giovanni Paccaloni fu professore di diritto civile ed ambasciatore ad Innocenzo VIII nel 1486 per la città di Benevento. Orazio e Donato edificarono nel 1633, in Benevento, la chiesa di Santa Maria del Popolo e nel 1668 questa famiglia fu ascritta al patriziato di Benevento. Francesco fu posteriormente arcivescovo di quella città. Nel 1721 questa famiglia fu decorata del titolo di marchese di Matrice e venne ascritta nel 1757 all'Ordine di Malta nel priorato di Capua. Bartolomeo Paccaloni (n. nel 1756), tenuto in sommo pregio non meno dai suoi nazionali che dagli esteri, fu vescovo di Velletri e creato cardinale di S.R.C. il 23 febbraio 1801 da Pio VII.
