Questa famiglia è originaria di Bergamo, ove era detta Oprandi; e un ramo di essa si trasferì in Ferrara verso la fine del secolo XVII, ove ben presto si distinse per le cospicue parentele contratte e per le cariche che le furono conferite. Pietro e Girolamo, di Gian Paolo Pacchieni, furono i primi che andarono ad abitare in Ferrara. Pietro, sposò Barbara Ferialdi, di antica famiglia ferrarese. Da questo matrimonio nacquero cinque figli, tra cui due femmine che andarono spose, l'una di nome Costanza, a Girolamo dei conti Ughi Scanabecchi; poi premortole il marito, passò a seconde nozze col conte Giacomo dall'Aste di Forlì; l'altra, Caterina, al marchese Lodovico Zavaglia. Gian Francesco e Gian Paolo, fratelli delle predette, furono creati conti, coi loro discendenti maschi, legittimi e naturali, da Rinaldo, duca di Modena, con diploma del 14 giugno 1709.
