Antica e nobile famiglia che trae le sue origini dai Tarlati da Pietramala, signori di Arezzo. Da Tarlato nacque, fra gli altri, Angelo da cui: Tarlato, Guido (dec. 1327), vescovo di Arezzo, che le cronache cittadine definirono il più eroico cittadino, il Padre glorioso della vecchia Repubblica di Arezzo; e che incoronò imperatore nel Duomo di Milano Lodovico il Bavaro e Pietro, al quale per il celebre sacco dato il 2 ottobre 1323 alla Città di Castello, fu dato il soprannome di Saccone, che poi fu assunto quale cognome dai suoi discendenti, seppur in fonetiche modificate; morì egli nel 1356. Fu suo figlio Rinieri, detto il Tiranno, da cui Antonio (1358-1443), capostipite dei discendenti marchigiani. Questi, alla cacciata dei Tarlati da Arezzo, si stabilì a Montalto Marche, assumendo il cognome attuale.
