Famiglia assai antica e nobile, anticamente detta anche Dè Pacella o Dè Pacelli, originaria del territorio di Roma. Numerosi personaggi di tale cognome, si trovano di sovente menzionati nei documenti notarili fin dai secoli trascorsi, dai quali appare che erano di condizione nobile. Nel corso dei secoli vari rami di questa casata si propagarono in diverse regioni d'Italia. E' comunque opinione che i Pacella ed i Pacelli di Onano siano rami di un unico ceppo. I Pacella originari di Onano, in quel di Viterbo, alla quale appartenne Marcantonio, avo di un Francesco, il quale, per sé e per la famiglia, nel 1853 ebbe la nobiltà di Acquapendente e similmente la nobiltà di Sant'Angelo in Vado il 5 gennaio del 1858. Il Pontefice Pio XI, con suo Breve 9 giugno 1929, concesse a Francesco Pacella, di Filippo, il titolo marchionale con discendenza primogeniale mascolina, titolo autorizzato con R.D. 8 agosto 1930
