Originaria di Bergamo, trapiantata in Mantova nel 1476, nel qual anno ottenne dal March. Lodovico Gonzaga la cittadinanza mantovana. La Duchessa Maria Gonzaga creò Annibale Fachini conte nel 1643. Questa famiglia, oggi estinta, unì al suo cognome quello dei Cattanei per essere stato dal Vescovo di Mantova, Giovan-Lucido Cattanei, con testamento del 26 Feb. 1685 dichiarato erede universale il di lui cugino il Conte Annibale Fachini. A questa famiglia ha appartenuto il titolo di Conte, titolo che solevasi dagli imperatori a coloro che erano al loro fianco. Da questi Conti si sceglieva coloro che venivano destinati a soprintendere agli uffizi del regio palazzo, ed altri erano mandati al governo delle provincie dell'impero ed a gurdare i confini. Erano poi altri conti, estranei ai cennati uffizi, come quelli addetti all'annona, al commercio; ed anche i provveditori dell'esercito si ebbero quel titolo.
