Dans la première moitié du XVIe siècle, cette famille apparaît à Cividale en la personne d'un D. Francesco quondam Girolamo Paciano, qui fut créé notaire en 1532 et ouvrit un lycée privé. Depuis 1539, il était payé par la communauté avec 90 ducats de salaire par an comme enseignant public, poste qu'il occupait encore en 1559 (Provved. sopra feudi, enveloppe 493, Archives d'État de Venise). En bon poète classique, Francesco nous a laissé vingt-cinq fables en excellent latin qu'il dédia en 1526 à l'administrateur de Cividale, Lodovico Michiel. Il avait également une réputation d'orateur talentueux, et la municipalité de Cividale, à l'occasion de la mort de la noble abbesse Reicinda Formentini de Santa Maria in Valle, le délégua pour réciter l'éloge funèbre. Quelqu'un a pensé à une éventuelle dérivation des Cividalese Paciani d'une famille du même nom de Modène, représentée vers le milieu du XVIIIe siècle par un comte Cesare
