Antica ed illustre famiglia di Urbino, di chiara e provata nobiltà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel 1499, Bartolomeo, di Lodovico Pagnarelli, fu il primo Priore di cotal famiglia; Placito e Marco, invece, ottennero il primo grado, in data 25 aprile 1632. Pietro fu un insigne matematico ed architetto militare. Andò, con D. Antonio, re di Portogallo, nelle Isole Terzere, per fortificare e mettere in difesa alcuni luoghi di quelle; servì, in Francia, il Duca di Mercurio, di Gioiosa e di Guisa. Si distinse, inoltre, al servizio addetto alla Repubblica di Lucca. Ma, d'altronde, tal casato, in ogni epoca, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Ser Francesco, egregio notaio, vivente in Urbino, nel 1403; Lorenzo, matematico ed assai stimato progettatore di strumenti, quali orologi e compassi; Saverio, nunzio apostolico,
