Die alte und sehr adelige Familie Palacio (de oder del) aus Spanien hat sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen des Königreichs verbreitet. Das edle Leben der Familie Palacio wird durch das Vorhandensein des Wappens im spanischen Staatsarchiv bestätigt. Dieser Familienname stammt aus der alten Familie älterer Verwandter von Vizcaya, die im 13. Jahrhundert von Lope Sánchez de Gordejuela, dem leiblichen Sohn des sechsten Lords von Ayala Don Furtud Sánchez de Salcedo, gegründet wurde. Lope Sánchez baute den primitiven Fahnenturm von Palacio und gründete die Stelle dieses Nachnamens und die von Ibargoen im oben genannten Tal.
