El apellido P. tiene el mismo origen etimológico que el de Palacio e históricamente procede por corrupción o pluralización de aquél, que unas veces se realizó modernamente durante los siglos XVI y XVIII e inclusive otras durante la Edad Media y aunque estas últimas casas son las menos esclarecidas, cabe estimarlas como las primitivas y auténticas del apellido. Tuvo casas este apellido en las villas de Morentín y Luquin, del partido de Estella (Navarra); en la de Oyón, del partido de Laguardia (Álava); en la de Oñate, del partido de Vergara (Guipúzcoa) y en la de Zalla y aldea de Belandia, del de Valmaseda (Vizcaya). De la casa de Oñate procedió una larga sucesión, que no podemos reproducir aquí por falta de espacio. De la casa de la aldea de Belandia, próxima a la ciudad de Orduña, del mismo partido de Valmaseda, procedieron: Joaquín María, Pedro y Juan de P.
