Sembra che questa famiglia abbia origine da Siena, pur non apparendo verosimile la discendenza da quell'Iacopo, bresciano, che nel 1327 venne a Siena come podestà e vicario per re Roberto di Sicilia, passato poi a Firenze con la stessa carica e che ebbe per antenato in Brescia un Bosone, che fu console nel 1109-1110, e coetaneo un Gigliolo (detto "nobilis vir"), che fu podestà di Modena nel 1341. Il capostipite dei Palazzoli è invece Francesco, vissuto verso la fine del XIII secolo. Nella genealogia inserita nei Libri d'Oro della Toscana figura primo iscritto un Giovanni Battista, che ebbe per figlio Angiolo (1733), gonfaloniere in Colle Val d'Elsa, coniugato con Anna Maria, di Gaetano Sarri. Da loro nacquero cinque figli, fra i quali: 1) Agostino (nato il 2 febbraio 1777), che fu egualmente gonfaloniere e sposò Maria di Paolo Vannuccini, da cui gli vennero l'avvocato Dionisio, apprezzatissimo priore nel Magistrato di
