En la ciudad de Fuerterrabía y en la calle del Obispo, llamada así por haber nacido en ella don Cristóbal Sandoval, Arzobispo de Sevilla, está la casa palacio de los Palencia. De la investigación realizada en el Archivo General de la Compañía de Indias en Sevilla, extraemos la siguiente información: Juan de P. Zapata, natural de Llerena, soltero hijo de Gonzalo de P. y de Leonor Álvarez fue nombrado Juez por decreto de la Real Compañía de Indias en marzo de 1577 y embarcó hacia Perú el 17 junio 1788; en otro legajo del mismo archivo figura que dimitió del cargo a los once años de ocuparlo, compró una hacienda y acumuló gran fortuna, murió a los 69 años víctima de unas extrañas fiebres, legó sus propiedades a los domínicos y repartió el dinero a sus tres hijos reconocidos, por lo que suponemos que fué uno de los iniciadores de
