Casata di antica e nobile tradizione, così come riportano le fonti bibliografiche presenti negli archivi storici, che confermano le notizie sulla famiglia Palestrieri, la quale risulta originaria di Parma, ove stabilì la propria dimora. Si ha memoria di questa famiglia sin dai secoli trascorsi e risultano imponenti testimonianze tanto negli archivi quanto nelle anagrafi circa la presenza pubblica dei componenti della famiglia Balestrieri e di altri personaggi ad essa legati nel territorio ove godette di nobiltà. Riportano i bibliografi che il duca di Parma Ferdinando, con Lettere Patenti 6 aprile 1795, concedette il titolo di conte ai fratelli: Vincenzo e Fulvio ed ai loro discendenti maschi. In detto privilegio tra l'altro si dice: "Poiché ci consta a suficenza dall'albo de' nobili di questa città di Parma che voi godete di un antico titolo di nobiltà, da ciò conviene alla munificenza dei principi insignire di onorificentissimi titoli quelli che sono famosi
