With diploma June 29, 1544 Charles V confirmed the privilege of nobility in favor of Gian Francesco Paliacio and his sons and descendants as males. This family, probably originally from Sicily, settled in Sassari, where it still lives. It is the only one of its kind in Sardinia, its members compete for the titles of knight and nobleman, with the treatment of don. Epperò Don Gavino Diego Paliacho, Don Tomaso Paliacho and Don Gavino Diego Paliacho Sanatello, all of Sassari, intervened, for their quality of nobles, at the General Parliament celebrated in Cagliari in 1698. Furthermore, the same family possessed a jurisdictional fief of the most remarkable island. With a diploma dated 20 April 1756, Carlo Emanuele III, king of Sardinia, made the concession of the marquis title of the area (region) of Planargia in the Capo di Logudoro in favor of the illustrious faithful and his beloved Provincial Regent
