Le prime memorie della famiglia sono del sec. XVI in Bricherasio poi in Verzuolo. Il titolo di conte di S. Roberto risale all'11 marzo 1783, data dell'investitura del luogo di Laux presso Usseaux, da denominarsi S. Roberto e fu il primo conte l'avv. Paolo Michele, nato a Verzuolo il 23 aprile 1729. Suo figlio, il conte Giovanni Battista Benedetto, nato a Verzuolo il 21 marzo 1749, fu padre di Ignazio e di Cesare. E' noto che Cesare, nato ad Annecy il 5 ottobre 1781 e morto a Torino il 9 maggio 1857, professò matematiche nel liceo di Genova e fu valente botanico. Ignazio, morto a Verzuolo il 4 ottobre 1834, é padre del celebre conte di S.
