Es wird angenommen, dass die Familie normannischen Ursprungs ist, die ihren Namen vom Land Palma erhalten hätte, das früher im Besitz eines Lehens dieses Namens war, das manchmal Castiglione genannt wurde. Erinnerungen wurden seit 1190 gefunden. Er besetzte hohe bürgerliche und kirchliche Positionen; es wurde seit 1300 wiederholt in der SMO von Malta empfangen und hatte auch das Baliaggio di Venosa im Orden. Es wurde wiederholt als großzügiger Adel bei der Aufnahme in die RR anerkannt. Leibwächter. Die Herzöge von Palma d'Artois von S. Elia, die seit 1613 am Sitz von Porto in Neapel eingeschrieben waren, starben in Maria Vittoria aus, der achten Herzogin von S. Elia, Baronin von Monacilioni (1763-1843), verheiratet mit Don Francesco Richter Caracciolo, Prinz der Villa S.
