Ha questa famiglia, che è oriunda da Rivarolo, origine antichissima e di essa già si hanno notizie nel sec. XIV. La genealogia, con nessi sicuri, si inizia con un Pietro, il quale viveva a metà del secolo XVI. Si suddivise in due linee: la primogenita dei conti di Cesnola e la secondogenita dei conti di Borgofranco. Quest'ultima, che ebbe per stipite Giovanni Aurelio, di Gianfrancesco, il quale era pronipote del citato Pietro, è ora estinta. Assurse il ramo primogenito al fastigio della nobiltà con Emanuele (n. 13 febbraio 1740, dec. 17 settembre 1814), figlio del dottore di leggi e magistrato Giuseppe Emanuele e di Girolama Bianchi. Fu costui infeudato di Cesnola il 10 novembre 1789 e investito il 19 marzo 1791 col titolo comitale. Sposò (1760) Irene Grassotti e furono suoi figli Alerino e Maurizio. Alerino (n.
