En una rigurosa investigación en el Archivo General de la Compañía de Indias de Sevilla, extraemos que Matis de P., natural de Talavera, soltero, hijo de Pedro de P. y de Catalina de Valencia, emprendió viaje al Perú el 13 diciembre 1578 sin más fortuna que 20 reales de plata y 1 de oro; una vez en su destino, participó en la política y ocupó el cargo de Escribano y luego el de Contable, acumuló una gran fortuna y regresó a España ocho años despues, dejando una saga de cinco hijos a los que reconoció y dotó antes de su regreso.
