Antica famiglia originaria di Terralba, della quale, il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza, riporta la blasonatura, nei volumi del suo "Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane", e le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XVII. I Panidi, talvolta detti anche de Pani, esercitavano ereditariamente l'ufficio di capitano della cavalleria miliziana di Terralba e, nel 1695, ottennero il cavalierato ereditario e la nobiltà con un Giovanni Panidi Esquirro, che nel 1698 fu ammesso allo stamento militare durante il parlamento Montallano. Nel secolo XVII un ramo della famiglia si trasferì in Oristano, dove mantenne una posizione di prestigio: un Niccolò fu vicario reale nel 1732. In seguito la famiglia si trasferì a Cagliari. Altro ramo. La più antica memoria di questa Casa riguarda Nicolò Panidi, canonico di San Pietro in Vinculis (rogito 3 giugno 1391). Nel 1479 morì Battista de' Panidi, canonico di San Pietro, e nel 1486 Lorenzo era guardiano
