Originaria di Bologna, da dove emigrò al tempo delle intestine discordie e trapiantossi in Fiorano, era detta anticamente de Talamutibus o Telamuciis. Nel 1593 si stabilì in Sassuolo, dove si divise in due rami tuttora fiorenti. Il più antico individuo di cui si abbia memoria è Rolando seniore padre di Pellegrino, il cui figlio Rolando o Rolandino, vivente nel 1453, fu quegli che assunse il cognome Panini. Giovanni, avvocato, fu dapprima giusdicente feudale di San Polo nel Reggiano dal 1783 al 1787, poscia sindaco fiscale, presidente del municipio ed archivista notarile in patria. Fu pure podestà di S. Valentino negli ultimi anni del XVII secolo, ed uno dei più benemeriti illustratori della storia di Sassuolo.
