Fu una delle sei famiglie dette Aquarie per aver fondato l'Estaurata di S. Pietro a Fusariello. Si diramò in Ischia, ove ai tempi di Carlo I d'Angiò teneva, colla famiglia Cossa, una galera in servizio dello Stato. Ha goduto nobiltà in Napoli al saggio di Porto ed in Ischia, ed à vestito l'abito del S. M. O. Gerosolimitano nel 1496. Ha posseduto ben 30 feudi, 4 contee, 5 marchesati, il ducato di Termoli ed i principati di Bitetto, Centola e Triggiano. Alfonso ammiraglio di Carlo I d'Angiò; Artusio gran siniscalco di re Ladislao e suo consigliere, ed uno dei favoriti della regina Giovanna II, edificò la chiesa di S. Giovanni Evangelista presso San Giovanni Maggiore e la cappella di S. Nicolò dei Papacoda; Baldassarre cavallerizzo maggiore di re Ferdinando I d'Aragona. Questa casa à dato alla chiesa di Tropea tre vescovi nelle persone di Sigismondo, il quale essendo stato eletto
