La famiglia C. hebbe origine primieramente in Bologna da un cavalier chiamato Gesualdo, che volendo andare all'acquisto di Terra Santa si puose nel petto una Croce d'oro in campo rosso, e di sotto questa parola (Carissima) ed andò, e tornò nel natio paese con molta sua lode nel 1222, e da questa bellissima azzione, ed impresa, il figlio Giovanni stimando la virtù del padre, lasciò l'antico cognome di Storletti, e C. si fece chiamare, dal quale si dilatò nella città di Parma, ove fiorisce. Il primo, che de' C. venne in Sicilia, fù Paschotto C. a' serviggi del l'Imperador Federico II con molt'altri gentil'huomini Bolognosi, i quali poscia andarono per presidio nelle città di Trapani, Mazzara, Marsala, ed Agrigento, circa il 1248 però in Trapani Paschotto procreò à Thomeo padre di Pirrone.
