I C., famiglia consolare nominata pure Carlasio, Garlasso, Garlassolo, assunsero il cognome dalla omonima località di cui erano i Signori ivi alternando con Tortona la loro residenza: località situata in zona montagnosa tra Mondondone e Nazzano ed i torrenti Staffora e Schizzola entrambi affluenti del Po. Richiamandoci ad alcuni rilievi sugli antichi nuclei famigliari del Tortonese che per gli uffici di cui erano investiti ebbero la ventura di costituire - come i più idonei - il primo governo comunale autonomo sul finire dell'XI sec., Ferdinando Gabotto, pur non affermandolo categoricamente, opina che i C. , come gli Avolasca e gli Ossona, signori di luoghi alle porte di Tortona, fossero consanguinei di Ingone di Tramontana figlio di Gaidaldo conte d'Acqui nel 991 (Tortona nell'età del Comune, 90).
