Originaria di Capua, passò in Sicilia con altre famiglie. Nella città di Capua è annoverata fra le principali famiglie d'antica nobiltà che ivi fiorirono. Il primo illustre membro in Sicilia, fu Riccardo Parotta, che dal Re Alfonso, nel 1416, fu fatto Capitano di Randazzo; il figlio Manfredo, dopo molti servigi al medesimo Re, ebbe lo stesso ufficio nel 1433, e f promosso pure nell'ufficio di pubblico Tabellione. Nacque da Manfredo, Lodovico, Dottor di legge che fu tre volte Giudice della Città di Catania, e si casò con la figlia di Giacomo Nardizone, cavaliere che fu diverse volte Capitano di Catania negli anni 1475, 1479, e 1487. Da Lodovico nacquero Manfredo, e Nicolò che vissero nobilmente in Catania nel reggimento dell'imperatore Carlo quinto. Da Giovanni, nipote del predetto Manfredo, nacquero Luigi, e Gaspero che fu genitore d'Annibale, d'Ottavio, d'Aquilio, di Gio. Batista, di Nicolò, di Vincenzo, e di Giuseppe, divenuti tutti
