Originaria di Spagna si vuole che sia passata sotto i Martini in Sicilia e precisamente a Messina dove godette nobiltà. Un Francesco Maria era ascritto alla mastra nobile di detta città (1605); un Giovanni, primo marchese di S. Leonardo in sua famiglia per investitura del 25 settembre 1769, fu senatore di Messina negli anni 1759-60, 1763-64, 1771-72 e rettore nobile degli Spersi nel 1770-71; un Orazio, proconservatore interim di Messina, ottenne a 30 maggio 1772 il titolo di barone di Calabrello; un Giovanni e Pallavicino fu marchese di S. Leonardo per investitura del 24 novembre 1791. Con Decreto Ministeriale venne riconosciuto il titolo di marchese, di S. Leonardo al signor Giovanni, di Giulio, di Giovanni. Nel Libro d'oro della nobiltà italiana sono iscritte le sorelle di detto marchese Giovanni: Michela e Adelaide e le zie: Concetta in Bonanno e Maria Ermellina in Chemis. Altro ramo. Antica patrizia messinese.
