Il capostipite di questa famiglia udinese è un maestro Leonardo del Maxser, pellicciaio, abitante in Mercatovecchio, già morto nel 1477, il quale nei documenti è detto figlio di Domenico di S.Daniele del Friuli. Il di lui figlio Bartolomeo pellicciaio ed orefice, si mise a negoziare anche in vino. Accumulata una buona sostanza, sposò la nobile Maddalena cavalcanti, del ramo udinese dell'illustre casata fiorentina. Leonardo, suo figlio, addottoratosi in medicina, fu assunto agli stipendi della comunità di Udine. Sparsasi la fama della sua abilità, venne chiamato ad esercitare l'arte sua alla corte di Ladislao, re di Ungheria, il quale, con diploma dato da Buda il 5 dicembre 1501, confermò a lui e al fratello nobile Nicolò de Maseris e legittimi successori, il loro stemma famigliare, un corvo in campo argenteo, migliorandolo negli smalti e nelle pezze, e concedendo il cimiero del corvo tenente nel becco un breve colle parole: Qui mihi
