E' una delle più antiche famiglie di Faenza, che risulta iscritta fra le nobili nel Libro d'Oro di quella città nel 1558. Pare abbia comunanza d'origine con quelli noti in Bologa fino dal 1221 e che ebbero uomini molto illustri, fra i quali merita menzione Guido, di Teodorico, creato vescovo di Nocera da Innocenzo IV; Luca, che fu Nunzio apostolico nel Regno di Portogallo per Sisto IV; Giacomo, vescovo di Faenza nel 1510; Giovanni, che nel 1413 ebbe l'onore di tenere le veci di Galeazzo Manfredi nel Governo di Faenza. Del ramo, che risiede in Faenza, il primo di cui si ha certa menzione è un tal Nicolò, padre di Andrea, che sposò Onestina Cittadini, da cui Antonio, marito di Agnesina Barbarari. Un Raffaele si dette alla carriera delle armi, che percorse brillantissima. Combattè da prode nella guerra dell'Indipendenza Italiana, ottenendo nel 1866 la medaglia d'oro al valore militare e
