Famiglia patrizia veneta, originaria di Candia. Navigando Domenico Michieli Doge di Venezia nel 1120 in soccorso di Terra Santa, approdò a quella isola, e P. giovine d'iillustre nascita e di gran coraggio, si unì all'armata veneta, colla quel trasferitosi in Soria vi operò cose segnalate; cosiicchè rapito l'animo del Doge alla vista delle sue belle imprese, volle condurlo seco in Venezia e lo aggregò tra i patrizi. Esclusa dal patriziato al serrare del Consiglio nel 1297, vi fu reintegrata nel 1381. Questa famiglia ebbe tre procuratori di San Marco, molti senatori, generali, ambasciatori, e fu investita della contea di San Polo, del baronato di Sesto, nonchè della signoria di Aldano e fu anche ascritta nel 1798 alla nobiltà di Cattaro. Altro ramo. La famiglia fu iscritta alla Nobiltà fiorentina (maschi e femmine) con decreto del 24 maggio 1751 in persona di Giovan Battista di Forte Bonnaventura, il quale aveva fondato
