Famiglia antica, oriunda da Cigliano, che ebbe larghe diramazioni. Si divise nelle linee di Ivrea, di Saluggia e Val di Cosso, e Conti di Villaregia, dei Castelrosso e dei St. Marcel. La linea detta dei Pastoris di Casalrosso ebbe l'infeudazione di questa terra in persona di Angelo Cristoforo, di Giambattista, il 13 febbraio 1722, che ne fu investito con titolo signorile il 21 successivo aprile. Il suo nipote Carlo Luigi, di Carlo Francesco, che era nato in Cigliano l'8 gennaio 1738, ottenne l'erezione in contea di Castelrosso il 10 luglio 1733. Costui sposò Clara Rambaudi, e furono suoi figli Luigi e Paolo. La discendenza di Luigi si estinse con la nipote Onorina che aveva sposato il Marchese Vittorio Roero di Cortanze. Paolo, che fu tenente colonnello d'armata, procreò Federico, che fu pittore di grande valore. Dalle sue nozze con Rosa Vicino ebbe per figli Giulia, moglie del Cavaliere Tancredi Carassi
