Famille ancienne et noble appelée Pavanesi, Pavani ou de 'Pavani. Un Federico Pavanesi conspira en 1386 en faveur de Taddeo Pepoli, mais ayant échoué, il fut condamné à mort par contumace. Celui-ci ne retourna donc pas illégalement dans son pays natal pour renouveler le complot ; mais découvre qu'il a été décapité. De nombreuses familles ont élu domicile à Bologne, car elle était considérée dans les temps les plus reculés comme célèbre parmi les républiques, pour la valeur de ses capitaines, pour la doctrine de ses jurisconsultes, pour les nombreux recteurs de différentes villes et pour l'autorité de ses Magistrats.
