Giuliano d'Avento, che viveva nel 1438 e che discenderebbe, a quanto si pretende, da famoso capitano di ventura Giovanni Acuto, è il primo personaggio di questa casata ferrarese del quale si abbia notizia. Vissero nello stesso secolo anche Buongiacomo e un Antonio. Insegnarono nel patrio ateneo Giovanni (1539). Gio. Giacomo (1574), e, più tardi, Giuseppe (1735). Appartennero al magistrato dei Savi Gio. Francesco negli anni 1641 e 1646, e altri dopo di lui. La famiglia possedette vasti territori a Portomaggiore, a Copparo, a Bondeno e altrove, tenne banco in Ferrara forse fin dai tempi di papa Leone X, che ricompensò con ampi privilegi i servizi da essa resigli; nel 1625 poi il banco sostituì il banco Zerbinati quale depositario della Comunità. Con rogito Donati 27 marzo 1685, Carlo di Giuseppe fu investito dal vescovo di Sarsina della dodicesima parte di Castelfacino col titolo di conte, e da lui provengono
