Lo stemma originario di famiglia riprodotto è desunto da un ramo esistente nella chiesa di San Bartolomeo di Parma. Colle parentele e specialmente coll'aggiunta del cognome Negri il blasone di famiglia divenne assai complesso e anche vario secondo i rami. La famiglia si stabilì anticamente a Pontremoli da Pavia e acquistò grandi ricchezze coll'arte bancaria, tanto da fare cospicui prestiti ai Farnese e agli Estensi, dai quali ebbero estesi possessi nel Parmense e nel Modenese. Pietro Negri ottenne per sè e discendenti maschi da D. Ferdinando di Borbone, duca di Parma, il titolo di marchese di Castelnuovo (Parma) con patto del 19 novembre 1794. Il 7 aprile 1707 Francesco Farnese li dichiarò nobili di Parma e nel 1806 erano dichiarati patrizi di Pontremoli. La famiglia nel 1815 passò a stabilirsi a Parma con Pietro. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata.
