Antica ed illustre originaria di Savigliano in Piemonte. La più antica memoria della nobile famiglia chiamata originariamente Pavo, Paonus de Pavoto e quindi Pavone, Pavoni e Pavonio è quella di un Obertus Pavo dell'antico Romanisio nel territorio di Fossano, il quale con altri parecchi prestava fedeltà al comune di Asti il 21 Giugno 1193 nel claustro della chiesa prepositorale di San Pietro nelle mani del procuratore della Repubblica Astese. Distrutto dal 1236 al 1250 Romanisio dai propri abitanti, i quali si portarono ad edificare Fossano, i Pavoni quivi si stanziarono anch'essi. Capo del loro albergo a que'tempi era il nobile Enrico Pavoni, il quale ad imitazione de'luoghi vicini ciscostanti, con atto 1 Novembre 1252, qual consigliere del luogo di Levaldigi, cedeva, donava, rinunziava a favore del Comune di Fossano ogni suo contito sul luogo e sugli uomini di Levaldigi, per lo che egli diventò uno dei primi nobili abitatori di
