Los de este apellido se originan de aquellos romanos que se quedaron con los godos cuando estos conquistaron a España, manteniéndose en las dignidades y empleos que tenian por los romanos, como afirma Don Juan Francisco de Hita, rey de armas que fué del señor Don Felipe IV, y Don Juan Baños de Velasco, cronista general de Castilla y del señor rey Don Carlos II, quienes tomaron el apellido de P. por haber sido conquistadores de la villa de este nombre, y alcaide y gobernador de su castillo Gomez Sanchez de P., caballero muy principal y de real sangre. Y porque este caballero conquistó de los moros cinco castillos, los que mantuvo a la devocion de los señores reyes de León a sus espensas, le premiaron estos con la alcaidía y gobierno de ellos; y que pusiese por armas sobre campo rojo los dichos castillos en demostracion de la sangre que habia derramado de los moros.
