L'antica nobiltà di questa famiglia fu riconosciuta, con decreto 26 marzo 1788 dell'I. R. Consiglio di Governo di Milano, a favore dei fratelli don Camillo Gerolamo e canonico don Francesco Maria, figli di don Antonio Maria e di D. Costanza Salari. Fu poi confermata, con Sovrana Risoluzione 28 gennaio 1817, a favore dei medesimo don Camillo, Girolamo e don Francesco Maria, nonchè a favore di don Michele e di don Carlo, anch'essi figli dei predetti don Antonio e di D. Costanza Salari. Con altra Sovrana risoluzione del 15 agosto stesso anno fu confermata anche a favore di Pietro, altro figlio di Antonio. Dalle prove esibite al Consiglio di Governo, risulta che i quattro fratelli suindicati discendono da un Giovanni Francesco Griringhelli, qualificato "magnifico e nobile" in atti pubblici del 1526 e del 1534. Il cognome Ghiringhelli, aggiunto al cognome, deriva da Beatricina Ghiringhelli, moglie di Andrea, ava del predetto Giovanni
